At a moment when Jesus’ disciples are deeply troubled, Jesus tells them that in His Father’s house are many rooms. Only when we understand Jesus’ cultural reference to the “Father’s house” will we then understand why Jesus makes this statement immediately following: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” Yes, this is a statement of exclusivity and absolute truth, but it is a statement that is only made possible through the love and service that Jesus gave to humanity. Through Jesus, we have been redeemed (by the only one who could redeem us), to give hope and assurance of spending all of eternity with him in the Father’s House, so that we can live and be different now.
