Scuffed Knees
Proverbs 16:18 declares, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” For Samson, this passage best encompasses his life because it was his pride that eventually did him in, most notably seen in his encounter with Delilah. This teaching investigates the nature of pride, how it works, why it is devastating to our lives, and how the only way to combat pride is with humility, most exemplified in the life and ministry of Jesus. For Jesus did not come to have the knee bent to him; he came to bend the knee to others, and in doing so he received scuffed knees. Our calling is to do the same. But in order to do so, we must shift our focus from ourselves and make other people bigger.
