Rushed by the Spirit

Key Passage(s):

This teaching provides a general overview of the Samson narrative, establishing that he’s a Nazirite, and deals with the misconception that Samson was empowered by the Spirit of the LORD to kill. Foundational to the Samson story is understanding the Spirit’s purpose was to confront Samson on his actions and point him in a better direction. However, on each occasion Samson rejects the voice of the LORD and engages in destructive behavior. Interesting, Samson’s story is often our story. How often do we find ourselves about to make an errant decision, and an inner voice of reason rushes upon us and confronts us on what we’re about to do? We must seek to cultivate our hearts and ears to be sensitive to the voice of God in our lives.
