The book of Acts chronicles the advancement of the early church. Often referred to as the “Acts of the Apostles,” it’s more accurate to understand it as the “Acts of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.” It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus continues his work through his disciples, spreading the good news of the Kingdom of God throughout the known world. In this teaching, we lay a foundation for the book, and explore the reality that the message of Jesus is never neutral – that there will always be significant tension, resistance, and persecution when the Kingdom of God collides with the kingdoms of the world. And in order to persevere as Jesus’s witnesses in the world, we need the power of the Holy Spirit and the presence of a community.
