God calls Jonah to Nineveh. Jonah heads the other direction. He does this, in part, out of disobedience. He does this, in part, because he’s deeply disappointed with God. Subsequently, Jonah finds himself descending deeper and deeper into darkness, until he ends up in the belly of a big fish. When we find ourselves in the depths due to our own disobedience, or because we’re deeply disappointed with God, we need to be reminded that God is calling us to arise out the depths and begin a process that leads us back to Himself.
