With Open Arms

One of the most beloved stories in the Bible is what’s traditionally known as “The Parable of the Prodigal Son.” There are three main characters: the younger son, the older son, and the father. When Jesus told this story, he desired us to see the father as a representation of who God is. And what we learn of the father in this story is that his lavish, generous, unbridled love will go to whatever lengths necessary – be it humiliation and embarrassment – to enable his kids to come home. And when they do, he welcomes them home with open arms. If you want to understand who God is and what His heart is like, this is the teaching.
