In a world that rarely slows down, many of us carry a constant undercurrent of anxiety, restlessness, and fatigue. Deep down, we long for more—for peace, stability, and a place of refuge where our souls can breathe and find rest. When David was fleeing from Saul, he found such a place in one of Israel’s most breathtaking and iconic locations—Masada! As we trace the biblical connections to David and the rich imagery of God being a fortress throughout Scripture, you’ll discover the powerful invitation to find a place of refuge to daily experience His presence, settle your soul, and remember who you are.

Hi Brad, I love the visual of Masada. Was there a cave they slept in for comfort and rest?
Hi Susan,
It’s hard to say. Masada is a flat topped plateau, and the Masada we visit today was reshaped by Herod the Great in the 1st Century. However, the geography of that area is filled with caves.
Love the idea of a candle as the only light in the early hours to allow our minds to rest in God before the day begins.
In the evenings just before bed when I pray and talk with God I find my Masada as I fall into a deep asleep while praying. I always wake up feeling much more refreshed. At first I would wonder why do I fall to sleep while praying? But then I understood it was God allowing me to rest in His presence.
