The ancients believed the gods were detached from human life and really didn’t care much of the human existence. They were angry, and you had to find ways to curb their anger and curry their favor in order to favorably bend their attention in your direction. Sadly, many see God in a similar way, and think Jesus came to save us from an angry God. This couldn’t be any further from the truth. God isn’t like the other gods. Beginning with Abraham in Genesis 15 and culminating with Jesus on the cross, we see a God who is sacrificing for humanity and doing everything possible to restore us to Himself, because God’s extravagant love for all people.
