Episode 204 – Biblical Images of God Pt 3: Good Shepherd

Many of us struggle to trust that God is actively leading our lives, especially when things feel uncertain or difficult. But the Scriptures constantly liken God to a Good Shepherd who skillfully guides, protects, and provides for His people. In this episode, we explore the depth of this image, from the rugged realities of shepherding in the ancient world to Jesus’s bold declaration, “I am the Good Shepherd.” This isn’t a passive or distant role; a true shepherd is both savvy and sacrificial—navigating harsh landscapes, fighting off danger, and laying down their life for the flock. By the end of this episode, you’ll see that trusting God isn’t wishful thinking—it’s a response to His skillful care and reliable voice.

Thank you for this captivating presentation of the Shepherd and the sheep. I just threw away some unread paperback books that portray a true story of decadence in the 1970s…Very early in that author’s book I realized that a did not want to follow that intrigue and language any farther. I am on my second year of working through “ The Bible Recap” by Tara-Leigh Cobble at the same time our pastor (of North Rome Baptist Church) and his family are doing during their home schooling. Our good Shepherd and you today reinforced my need and focus to be on what is “true and acceptable” for my reading and meditation in my retirement at home with my husband of 54 years. I am so glad you helped tie these visuals and truths together for me this morning.

Thank you so much for the visual meaning of a Shepherd.. I struggle with listening in quietness to actually hear God speak. Prayer and praise is easy for me. I love reading the Bible, but struggle with Gods’ timing.
