Episode 202 – Biblical Images of God Pt 1: Living Water
Key Passage(s): Jeremiah 2:13; 17:13; John 4:10; 7:37-38
How you think about God determines how you interact with God. Therefore, it’s essential to have an accurate understanding of who He is and what He’s like. In this new series – Biblical Images of God – we unpack the vivid and concrete metaphors used of God in order to deepen our relationship with Him. Beginning with “living water,” we uncover the significance of this image by examining Jeremiah’s depiction of the oasis at En Gedi and Jesus’s declaration in the Gospel of John that He is the true source of living water. By seeing God as “living water,” you’ll gain a fuller picture of His character, experience His ability to renew dry and weary souls, and be inspired to carry His life-giving spirit into a thirsty world.
Discussion Questions
- What was your biggest takeaway from the teaching?
- Reflect for a moment on your own journey with Jesus. In what ways do you sometimes exchange God’s miraculous provision of “living water” for a second-rate version that doesn’t satisfy?
- Describe one or two moments in your life when it felt like God met you with “living water?” What form did that “living water” take? (Be specific: Was it a well-timed encouragement from a friend? Unexpected financial assistance when you needed it most, etc.?)
- Take a few moments to ponder the people in your community (friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc.), is there anyone you know that’s in the midst of a dry season? How might God’s Spirit be inviting you to be an expression of “living water” in their lives?
- How will you begin living out the truths of this teaching this week?

Thank you, I love the practical and revelatory information. It’s chock-filled nuggets have me coming back for more and more.
Thank you Brad how many episodes will this series be please? What day will each on post? As I mentor with these teachings. So we can decide when to meet.
Such great encouragement! I’ve watched it three times now, and each time something “new” stands out. The first time I thought about how much access we have in our daily lives to “living water”; ie running water to take a shower. Often we take it for granite. Relating that to the abundance of The Holy Spirit poured out and living in us, compared to those areas around the world where The Holy Spirit is not allowed to flow so freely. Yet, He is moving and bringing “rain” to those spiritually dead places and nothing can stop the “rain” from bringing forth new life.
The 2nd and 3rd time, I really picked up on the impact and connection of those who have need of their names being written in the dust… and how religion over complicates our ability to relate to God relationally and seeing His profound consistency and accessibility throughout His Scriptures.
Thank you Brad(s) for taking the time to unpack the Names of God in practical, relatable terms! I am earnestly looking forward to the unveiling of this series. Thank you!!
I have especially been thinking about God as Farmer. My husband and I recently started watching “Little House on the Prairie” and one episode they had an abundant crop of wheat ready for harvest, but durning the night, before they could bring it in, a great storm of heavy rain and hail decimated the 100 acres. Yet, the ladies were able to work diligently and bring in a remnant harvest. I’ve been pondering if that’s what, at times, happens to The Lord’s crop….
I am looking forward to this series of Teachings!!!
