Episode 177 – Flora & Faith Pt 3: Waiting with the Almond Tree
Key Passage(s): Jeremiah 1:11-12; Exodus 25:31-34
Waiting on God is one of the most difficult things to do in life. In some seasons, we’re forced to wait so long it’s hard to see any redemptive purpose in it. But, in the Scriptures, the blossoming of the almond tree is a hopeful sign of better things to come. It’s also a symbol that God is watching and working in the waiting. By the end of this episode, you’ll discover how the almond tree teaches us to ask the most powerful, perspective-shifting question while we wait on God to fulfill His purposes.
Discussion Questions
- What was your biggest takeaway from the teaching?
- Recall one of the challenging seasons of waiting in your life. What were you waiting on? How did it turn out?
- If what Wayne Stiles said is true (that in our experiences of waiting we learn things we couldn’t learn any other way), what have you learned, and how have your experiences of waiting shaped you for the better?
- When we’re in an agonizing season of waiting, it can feel patronizing to be told, “I know this is hard, but don’t worry. God is up to something good.” What are some thoughtful, creative ways to empathize with others in their seasons of waiting so that we encourage rather than discourage them?
- How will you begin living out the truths of this teaching this week?
