Episode 136 – Armor of God Pt 1: The Battle is Real

Paul doesn’t want us to be naïve about the fact that we’re engaged in a cosmic struggle with the forces of evil. Unfortunately, most of us are oblivious to the fact that there’s more going on than meets the eye. And because we’re unaware, we’re often ill-equipped to face the challenges. During these challenges, we are called to put on the full Armor of God. By the end of the first episode of this series, you’ll possess a greater awareness of the struggle in which we’re all engaged and a clearer understanding of how God means for us to respond to the reality of spiritual warfare.

Discussion Questions

  • What was your biggest takeaway from the teaching?
  • Describe a situation in your life where you sensed that struggle between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Evil was playing out in your life?
  • What do you think of NT Wright’s suggestion that when it comes to the idea of spiritual warfare, most people either ignore it or over-indulge it? Where would you place yourself on that spectrum?
  • Because human beings bear the image of God and embody God’s glory, evil often opposes us in the very places where we bring the most glory and goodness to God. Where in your life do you feel you most deeply embody God’s goodness and glory (marriage, business, kids, your giftedness, etc.), and how have you experienced evil coming after you in that very place?
  • How will you begin living out the truths of this teaching this week?

Do the teaching series come out weekly or every 2 weeks? This might be one the ladies in our group would like to do, but we might need to let you get a little further ahead.

Excellent! What’s powerful is that it’s GOD’S armor that we put on…not OUR armor!
If we don’t take off the armor, there’s no need to keep putting it on…

This is a great comment, Janie! And what we’ll find in this series is that the first three are pieces of armor we’re always supposed to have on, and the last three are pieces of armor we put on and use when the battle is particularly difficult. It’s going to be fun to unpack in upcoming episodes!

Looking forward to this study! Wow what timing. I have been wondering about some things I hear in prayer teams such as binding Satan or casting evil into the pit. Looking forward to hearing more and understanding the context.

Thank you for sharing this, Dwight. We won’t go into detail at “binding Satan” but we will provide the context for Ephesians 6 and the implications for us today.

So I just binge watched your entire teaching series in a matter of two months. I love it!!! It was fun to relive the last 3 years through your podcasts. I kept trying to warn you that you weren’t going to be able to take your big trip in 2020, but was disappointed with you when you found out that you couldn’t go. The Bible is the best. Putting it into context is crucial and fun!!! You do a great job bringing it to life and helping us to walk it out well. Thanks for all the time and effort you put in to make this a reality. We are grateful.

PS The soul patch??? Lol. Maybe a good thing that it was one episode.
Just kidding. You do you. 😁 I do love the new aesthetics. Your guy has done the show well.
Now I have to learn how to deal with the wait. Looking forward to the next release. 😁😁😁
Kudos to you and your family. Keep walking well

Hi Brad, Thank you for this series. I am loving each one so far. I am going to take this to my men’s group at church and do this Bible Study. I look forward to all the set. I am recently divorced and finding myself again and studies like this help me out so much. I am also looking forward to learning much more from you. I am also currently taking classes to become a lay minister at my church in northern Ky.
