Comfort in the Midst of Vulnerability
When we experience vulnerability in our lives – the kind of vulnerability that renders us confused, frustrated, hurt, scared, or anxious – where do we turn? What do we do? How do we navigate these moments and seasons in our lives well? It’s this kind of vulnerability that sits in the background of Psalm 121, which begins, “I lift my eyes to hills; where does my help come from?” This is a Jerusalem psalm, and the geography of Jerusalem made it a vulnerable place to live. And the psalmist sets out to help us understand how to navigate the vulnerable experiences of our lives based on several illustrations connected to life in Jerusalem that are intended to bring comfort. Our situations may not change, but how we engage them most certainly will.
