In John 7, we read, “On the last day of the feast [Sukkot], the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his [Jesus’] heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Jesus could not have picked a better moment to make this monumental statement. And when we understand Jesus’ statement in the proper context, we learn that we have access to the source of living water, and yet many of us choose a life that resembles a broken cistern.
