Altar of the Present

I love challenging stories. So I thought it would be a lot of fun to kick off the New Year by looking at one of the most messed up, problematic, and challenging stories found in the Older Testament. This is a teaching that looks at the life of Jephthah and ultimately how he sacrifices his future on the altar of the present. Jephthah wanted something so badly in the present that he was willing to do anything to get it, regardless of what it would cost him in the future. Sadly, we do the same. Thus, in this New Year’s teaching, we’re challenged to think about how the decisions we’re making today will impact our futures tomorrow.
